Several months ago I thought my company would be sending me to some training, which I could conveniently arrange to be in Houston. That is just about 540 miles from Pensacola, and would work out just fine in my opinion for me to take my Z back to SGP for some work. Although the training did not work out this year, the visit to SGP did. And, it went quite well: The short of it: 484 RWHP and 474 TQ on 93 Octane at 18 lbs., and 577 RWHP 551 TQ on race gas at 25 lbs boost. I knew it was time for a 60K service, and I thought I heard a lifter ticking a bit more than I was comfortable with, so it was an ideal time to pull the heads and do a little work there. Since the motor was to come out for that, might as well replace the turbos. To make them really sing, let's go for the Inconel manifolds and split downpipes. Although I left the cams to do at a later date, everything is ready for them, and they can be installed without pulling the motor again. The laundry list for this round of mods was: HKS GT2530 Turbos Greg D. Inconel Manifolds LaBree (Greg D.) Split 5-bolt Downpipes LaBree (Greg D.) Testpipes with Flex Joints SGP Ported and Polished Heads JUN Valve Springs SGP Titanium Retainers SGP Bronze Valve Guides PE Timing Belt All to be tuned on the Dynapack Dyno at SGP. Some pics and stuff: Yes, the turbos still have some lag. But when they spool, they come ON. With the recent cold snap, I am still learning to modulate it. Suffice to say, if I am not toasting local challengers, I am marking my territory with long black stripes.
As always, I cannot say enough good things about Kyle and SGP. Completely professional, and obsessive for the details and the results. Courteous, friendly, helpful, and fair to a fault in pricing. Perhaps the biggest testament to my trust of them is to drive my car to them and leave it for a week, only to get in it the following Saturday afternoon with no reservations and drive home 500+ miles after it has had major work of this sort. Kyle, you worked your magic again!
